The CBC tonight ran a pre-recorded eppisode of Just for Laughs with some very nasty jokes about airplanes crashing. The comedian featured was from Ottawa. Hopefully the Americans don't realize this and mistake it as a slight by our national media outlet.

To actually reduce the numbers of geese, the spraying of goose eggs with mineral oil as a means of terminating embryo development (Christens, Blokpoel, Rason & Jarvie 1995) will be studied. Although this has already been proven to be a successful method of reducing the number of geese, according to the authors, the long-term effects of oiling goose eggs is still unknown. This aspect will, therefore be a focus of the proposed research. The proposal will also explore methods of making adult geese sterile so as to prevent the production of offspring. For example, according to Grow (1972), cross breeding Canada geese (which are not true geese, but membersof the brant family) with true geese produces sterile offspring. Research will thus be undertaken to determine if this is a viable option. Diet will also be studied, as Grow notes that a lack of vitamins A, C, and E in geese may cause infertility in adult geese.
