So I was walking along King Street last night, near Bathurst, and I came across a wonderful addition to my typewriter collection: A Smith Corona PWP 990 electgric typewriter. It was missing the power cord, but was designed to be "portable" (that is, it's the size of a desktop computer and weighs about 65 pounds, but it does have a handle.) So I brought it home, found a power cord that worked, and turned it on. You know what? It works! It's a very sweet piece of writing technology too, with an auditory spell-check warning, a word-erase key, and key-based dictionary, thesauras and word-suggest. I'll post a few photos once I get my Firewire card working again.

Although the American Army Chemical Review website claims to be unavailable, the archives are still online, including an interesting article from 1996 about the history of biological warfare which may be of some interest in these days of random anthrax attacks.
